New Luxury Tented Safari Camp! We would like to introduce you to South Africa’s newest luxury safari destination, Rhino Sands Safari Camp. We’re getting back to the basics of safari…canvas, nature, romance and luxury all combined into one incredible experience in the big five Manyoni Private Game Reserve right in the heart of Zululand.
Main CampDesigned to bring an authentic safari experience in traditional East African style to Kwa-Zulu Natal, Rhino Sands Safari Camp is an 8-bed luxury tented camp set on a peninsula in the Msunduze River in Manyoni Private Game Reserve. The entire camp is set under canvas upon wooden platforms within the riverine forest. The main camp area features a reception office, casual bar lounge space, formal lounge, and both formal and casual dining areas. There is also a large boma area complete with bush oven for guests to enjoy dining fireside beneath the stars. The ExperienceThe goal at Rhino Sands is for each guest to experience every day on safari as a unique and exciting adventure, and our team has been empowered to create this feeling for them. We want to share with our guests the special part of safari that our team has fallen in love with…things like bush picnics, riverbed braais, and decadent sundowner stops. Each day will be a little different from the day before and we hope to inspire our guests to take these special opportunities to truly appreciate the magic that the African bush holds.Spectacular WildlifeThe experience revolves around two daily safari drives within Manyoni Private Game Reserve. The reserve is one of the premier game-viewing destinations in Kwa-Zulu Natal and is home to the Big 5 along with African wild dogs and cheetahs, as well as large numbers of all the more common African animals. One of the most special moments on game drive are the rest stops, in the morning for coffee and tea and in the evening for sundowner drinks. Guests get a chance to pause and absorb the bush around them while stretching their legs and enjoying refreshments and snacks. We suggest guests take this time to enjoy an exceptional wilderness moment. At the campIn between game drives, guests can take advantage of the camp facilities. Upon returning from the morning drive a decadent breakfast is served. Guests can relax at the camp’s lounge or bar deck and watch the myriad of bird life in the riverine forest. A light lunch is served midafternoon and guests can find respite from the heat in their private swimming pool while watching the reserve’s animals drink from watering holes in the river below. Afternoon tea precedes the evening game drive. After returning to camp the chef will prepare a gourmet three-course dinner, featuring some of the flavours and ingredients South Africa is famous for. As the day draws to a close spend time with us having a night cap around the campfire sharing stories or retire to your tent to fall asleep to the night time melodies of the bush. At the heart of Rhino SandsRhino Sands’ ethos is one of connection with nature and people. This is why we have chosen a tented camp rather than built structures and why we decided to keep our numbers small and intimate. While we do provide wifi for our guests in their rooms in between safari and meal times, we kindly ask all of our guests to refrain from using their devices in our public spaces. We believe that disconnecting from our busy digital lives and living in the moment is one of the most precious parts of the safari experience and this enables us to connect not just with the environment, but with one another as well.

Rooms

Private Tented RoomsEach of our tented suites are situated in a private patch of riverine forest, with a stunning view of the river below where animals come to drink at permanent water holes throughout the year. With their own private swimming pools, lounges and outdoor showers, the guest accommodation is the ultimate in safari-style luxury. Guests can stay in one of four luxurious custom-built private tented suites located amid beautiful riverine forest, each featuring a private living area, outdoor shower, and swimming pool. Each tent opens completely on three sides so guests can immerse themselves in the wilderness experience. All tents have stunning views of the river bed below. The camp has been designed and decorated with an emphasis on the romance of the classical safari experience, with a nod towards traditional safari styling but including all the modern luxuries.
