MARYSVILLE

MARYSVILLE

Leave the city behind and play a part in the recovery of Marysville. Just a short drive to Melbourne's closest alpine resort, on the doorstep to the Yarra Ranges National Park, and surrounded by waterfalls, this is the ideal place to slow down and get back to nature.

Established in 1863 as a stopover for diggers on their way to the goldfields, Marysville evolved into a popular honeymoon and resort destination. The town thrived until early 2009 when the Black Saturday bushfires destroyed almost the entire town. Due to a massive relief effort and the tireless work of the locals, many businesses have reopened and further progress is being made weekly.

See the remarkable regeneration of the surrounding bushland on a drive to Lake Mountain for skiing, tobogganing and all kind of snow activities. When things warm up, enjoy mountain biking, trout fishing, golf and discover the local arts and crafts scene.

Get close to nature on a bushwalk through the Yarra Ranges National Park, visit one of the many waterfalls in the surrounding area, or take advantage of the abundant birdwatching opportunities. Drive to nearby Cathedral Range State park and wander through 100 metre high mountain ash, tree ferns and explore the spectacular seven kilometre ridge of upturned sedimentary rock.
