The best place to spot wild tigers in Rajasthan is the Ranthambore National Park which is located about 130 km from Jaipur. At the centre of over a thousand square kilometres of wild jungle scrub hemmed in by rocky ridges lies the 10th-century Ranthambhore Fort.
Surrounded by mosques, temples, crocodile-filled lakes, hunting pavilions and vine-covered burial tombs, the park was, Until 1970, a maharajas’ hunting ground. This may seem strange as it became a sanctuary some 15 years earlier.
