Located in the quiet Olare Motorogi Conservancy and with only six tents dotted through the bush, Kicheche Bush Camp is an intimate tented camp owned in partnership with photographer Paul Goldstein. As a result, there is a keen focus on wildlife viewing and photography here, making this a popular camp that safari enthusiasts flock to year after year.
With only six tents, Kicheche Bush Camp has an intimate feel with meals taken al-fresco or in the open-sided dining tent. Despite being a semi-permanent camp, the tents themselves are very comfortable with proper beds, tasteful bedroom furniture and an en suite bathroom with flushing toilet and safari bucket shower. The natural colours and stylish furnishings make the tents very cool and comfortable during the heat of the day and all enjoy lovely views of the plains and rolling hills beyond. Each tent also has a small veranda with comfortable chairs at the front, and a hammock strung in the trees, which is ideal for reading & watching the local wildlife go by in the afternoons. Activities from Kicheche Bush Camp include game-drives and walking safaris with an armed ranger, and the guides here are trained to high standards. They can also arrange fly-camping which is an amazing experience! Responsible Tourism: Kicheche aims to benefit the land, wildlife and community around the camp by supporting health and education in the area. This happens through the Kicheche Community Project, which has helped pay the headmaster and rebuild the school at Olkimitare Nursery School. On top of this, the project gives medicine and bandages to the Aitong Medical Clinic, and has recently helped to install a pump to provide clean water. Alongside the camp's own efforts, guests from Kicheche have helped support the Aitong Academy with donations of everything from pencils to pounds! Lastly, the lodge helps provide long term employment for the local community, and preserve the wildlife, by providing a scholarship each year to Koyaki Guiding School, and providing traineeships for the guides in camp.

Dining

Kicheche cooks produce a variety of African and international dishes and special dietary requirements can be catered for. Fresh produce is flown in regularly and bread and pastries are baked daily.

Dining

Breakfast is usually a picnic taken out in the bush. We had boiled eggs, cold bacon and sausage, as well as yoghurt, cereal, fruit salad, coffee or tea, and fruit juice. In camp, you’ll also be offered a proper cooked breakfast.  On most days lunch is a cold buffet, with dishes such as an onion tart, green salad, chicken skewers, couscous and bean salad, along with irresistible fresh bread. Cheeses and dessert are also a daily feature; we particularly enjoyed the rich chocolate mousse. Dinner is a set menu with starters such as spiced butternut soup or tomato and mozzarella salad. For a main course we had beef fillet with potatoes and vegetables, and on our second night we had oven-baked pork with potato mash and baked apples, with vegetables. For pudding, the homemade rhubarb crumble with custard, and melon and strawberry tart, were exceptional.

Recreation

The activities from Kicheche Bush Camp are based around game viewing and visits to a local village and school. All the guides have expert knowledge on local wildlife and folklore and are ideal companions on a day or night drive or walking safari. Kicheche now offers escorted walking safaris with overnight stays in a fly-camp in the bush. These excursions are led by one of Kicheche's senior guides and an armed ranger. Balloon trips over the Mara can be arranged when required.

Onsite Recreation

Kicheche Bush Camp now offers escorted walking safaris with overnight stays in a fly-camp in the bush. These excursions are led by one of Kicheche's senior guides and an armed ranger. It is an outstanding opportunity to see the Mara from a completely different perspective and also offers some welcome exercise whilst on safari. You will explore the smaller aspects of savannah life - birds, grasses, and insects - and may even be lucky enough to encounter some larger game en-route

Wedding

Far from the clinical, charmless, coastal conveyor belt of marriages are Plains Weddings, Kicheche style. If you are going to tie a permanent knot, where better to do it under the watchful eye of an ancient Tortillis or Acacia tree, iconic, lonely sentinels that guard the priceless plains. The doves cooe in the crown of the tree, the zebras snort in the distance and a late afternoon sun illuminates the ceremony.

Bush Weddings

Around the couple a steady pulse of Maasai chanting throbs and distant thunder massages the faraway escarpment. Waiting your turn in a huge hotel, waiting your turn in a concrete registry office -not the Kicheche way, you choose the tree, we'll take care of the rest.
