The Naukluft Mountains are more than 500 million years old. In the midst of the stark and foreboding ruggedness of the region that seems to repel life, the Naukluft presents a lively (excuse the pun) contrast.
The Naukluft Mountains is home to many different species of plants, animals, and birds. There is greenery here. The air is filled with the chirping and cackling of birds. Animals, small and large, stir and move in the nooks and crevices of the rocks, beside glassy streams of water that tumble down mossy rocks, and across the grassy lands while kicking up clouds of dust. Life abounds in these mountains. The giver is water. Colossal subterranean caverns store water that feeds the numerous fountains that spout in the gorges.
